Siân Humphreys is Pontypridd YMCA’s new Chair

Pontypridd YMCA is delighted to announce that Siân Humphreys has been appointed as Chair of Pontypridd YMCA.

Siân who is from and lives in Pontypridd is a Business Consultant at Admiral. She has vast experience in managing and co-ordinating projects and is a graduate of the 20Twenty Leading Business Growth Programme from Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Siân has been a trustee for Pontypridd YMCA since last year and is excited about what the future holds for the organisation.

Sian Humphreys said: “I am very much looking forward to leading the Board of trustees into the next phase for Pontypridd YMCA. and to build on the work done in the last few years. Thank you to Kay Walters for the time and energy she has given as Chair.“

Kay Walters, former Chair of Pontypridd YMCA will be remaining on the Board. Kay Walters said: “Congratulations to Siân on her new role. Siân’s experience in business and her high level of commitment will be key in her role as Chair of Pontypridd YMCA. I look forward to working with her and the rest of the Board at an important time for Pontypridd YMCA.”

Work to redevelop Pontypridd’s historic YMCA building has been progressing well with thanks to funding by RCT County Borough Council and Arts Council of Wales, Welsh Government, Moondance Foundation and Garfield Weston Foundation. Ambitious plans will bring the historic local venue back into community use by the end of 2021. The main tenant and long term partner Artis Community Cymuned, will manage the building on behalf of the Pontypridd YMCA.

Artis CEO, Jên Angharad said: “This is a very exciting time for Artis and our partnership with Pontypridd YMCA. This building holds a great deal of social history and special memories. There have been many people, over a long period of time, involved in bringing this building back to life, so that it can take its place once more within its community now and in the future. We’re working with local service providers and community groups to make sure that its programmes complement other provision in the town and region. The redeveloped building will be a place for social, creative, learning and training opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy.  Partnerships and collaboration is vital for the sustainability of this incredible resource. We will continue working with Pontypridd YMCA, organisations, artists and local people to develop and platform creative, artistic and community work.”

Siân Humphreys said: “Artis’ experience of working with the community makes them best placed to deliver within the new space. I am confident in their ability to manage the building and can’t wait to work with them to bring the building back to full strength. This project brings hope and positivity for the town. There is so much to look forward to, there will be exciting developments announced soon including a new name for the building.”
